Cornell University announced today that its Ithaca Campus, Weill Cornell, and Cornell Agritech in Geneva will be adopting a hybrid model combining online and in-person instruction for the Fall 2020 semester. The University further announced that online options would be available for those unable to return to campus. Classes are set to begin on September 2, 2020 under the hybrid model, switch to online instruction on November 24, 2020 and end on December 21, 2020. Currently, classes are slated to resume normally for the spring semester.
A number of new measures will be implemented by the University to ensure student safety. A staggered move-in schedule, testing, isolation, quarantine and contact tracing will be used for students returning to campus and throughout the school year. Face masks, assigned seating and enrollment caps will be strictly enforced with respect to in-person instruction. On-campus housing will be limited to single and double accommodations. On-campus dining will utilize reservation and take-out models. Concerts, outside lectures and visitors have been suspended for the fall semester. The University has also stated that students will be required to sign a student behavioral agreement with respect to social and hygiene behaviors.
